It is a pleasure to offer a very fine and rare Vienna wall clock in lovely original condition and manufactured circa 1860.
This particular has been part of my private collection for approximately 10 years having been sourced from a collector in Europe.
I have collected this particular style of Vienna regulator for 30 years and the few I have seen have been made by Wenzel Schonberger in Vienna .It is the only inlaid example I have ever seen and I very much doubt that I will ever see another.
Austrian clocks such as this are entirely hand made and finished by time served master clockmaker’s and should not be confused with the much cheaper mass produced German clocks.
Austrian clocks were only made for the most discerning customers (who could afford them) and took many months to complete individually.
Subsequently they are rare items and I have spent almost 30 years driving all over Europe to source these clocks, particularly the finer examples with originality being a paramount requirement.
Unfortunately there are too many people selling modern reproductions to customers.
Obviously, any potential clients are very welcome to view the clock prior to purchase (or pay on delivery)to ensure that they are satisfied with their purchase.
As you can see from the photographs this is a very pretty clock which is of very small size for a striking example when you consider that the clock has to strike 1440 times per winding and that the weights only have 14 inches to drop!
.The weight driven movement is of 8 day duration and has dead beat escapement. It strikes the hours and half hours on a coiled gong and there is facility for pull repeat by a cord .It also has smaller winding barrels to assist with the duration. It is of the finest quality and fitted to the case by a wooden seat board.
The 5 spoked pulleys are typically Schonberger as is everything else on this clock.
The case is veneered in Rosewood which is of excellent colour and is inlaid with with brass, pewter and ivorine. Please study the images of the case to see the quality of the inlay. The sides of the case have barley twist pillars and the door is secured by lock and key
All the original finish is present and the patina is perfect..
Of course these clocks were amongst the most expensive made but he had no problem selling them to discerning clients.
The overall condition is outstanding being original and well looked after.
There is ,of course, the odd age related mark as you would expect on any item of this age but the condition is a good as anyone could possibly expect. The three top finials are hand made replacements..
The 7 inch one piece dial is in perfect condition and signed by the maker and the blued steel hands are original. The clock functions perfectly having just been professionally cleaned and serviced..
The sides of the case are glazed with original glass as is the front.
The original winding crank is present.
Hopefully the images will show show interested parties all they need to see.
I have deliberately left the original lacquer on the brass backed pendulum and weights as I like them that way but they can be polished to a high shine if the buyer wishes. This clock is much nicer in the flesh and looks very impre
