An Arts & Crafts Cotswold School rocking chair to an Ernest Gimson design made by Ed Gardiner c1930’s. A turned solid ash frame, curved top rail, uprights with shaped finials, spindle back and rush seat. In very good condition, all joints are tight and the rush seat is intact. Stamped to the leg. Early in its life it looks as if it was painted, but 95% has worn off so its just the remnants deep in the grain which gives an appearance of liming.
Ed Gardiner was encouraged to take up chair making by Ernest Gimson c1904, who in turn was encouraged by Philip Clissett.
