This is a rare and beautiful Anglo Indian silver bachelor’s tea pot from around 1890.
The wonderful engraved pattern is known as the ‘shawl’ pattern as it is based on the Kashmiri shawls that are world famous.
We have included an image (for information only) of the same pattern on a butter dish.
These small tea pots were made for bachelor’s and hence the name and small dimensions.
It has a lovely spout which terminates in what appears to be an elephant’s trunk.
The thumbpiece also appears in the shape of an elephants head.
The knop at the top of the lid is also made of wood.
It has a native fruit wood handle that would prevent heat from travelling up the handle.
We have included an image of a similar period and style European bachelor’s tea pot that also has a similar wooden handle (please note this image is for information only).
This is a rare piece of Anglo Indian silver and is in very good condition without any damage or repair. There is some minor tarnish that should polish out.
It has been tested to be minimum 90% silver and probably is sterling as that was the standard for Anglo Indian silver at that period.
It weighs a solid 590g and measures 16cm in height x 24cm across from spout to handle.
Please note that the knop on the lid is slightly loose but this does not detract from the overall amazing condition of this rare and very desirable Anglo Indian silver teapot.
Please note that the can of soda is not included in this sale.
