Description

A late Roman very pale green clear glass cosmetics flask. The flask has a flat rim, and a globular body standing on a flattened base, inverted towards the centre.
Circa 4th-5th century AD.
Height 6.1 cms (2.4 ins).
Complete and intact with an attractive silvery iridescence over much of the surface. A very fine example.
Context: Glass was produced in large numbers in the later Roman empire. It was used to produce items of everyday use, for keeping expensive unguents and cosmetic oils which would have been gathered from all corners of the expansive Roman Empire.
