An erudite work of scholarship in which the author traces the history of the sailing ship in art, from the earliest wood-cuts dating from the 15th Century down to the delicate lithographs of the late Victorian age, when sail was gradually giving way to steam. Hard covers, 182 pages, some 110 mainly black and white illustrations with a few colour plates, original dust jacket.
