18/269   Antique watercolour and Gouache by Henry Edwin Tozer (1838-1913) Titled ‘Sail And Steam’ dated 1870.

H 45 / W 61 cms

 

Henry Tozer was a 19th century marine artist.  He was born in Soho London but later moved to Brixham in Devon.  His sons Henry and Eustace both became well known artists.

This painting is a good example of his favourite subject matter: shipping in rough seas and stormy weather.

 

Exhibited at the Royal Society of Artists Birmingham and the Royal Academy
