Rare set (2) Sterling Silver Trophy Loving Cup Huddersfield & District Cricket Club 1953 1954

We are offering a rare set of two as shown: Huddersfield & District Cricket League Sykes Cup trophies in the three handled loving cup style.

We are including some information about the Sykes Cup at the end of this listing.

Each one has the same inscription engraved on it with just the change of year:

“H & D C.L

Sykes Cup

Winners”

[1953 and 1954]

There is some lovely detail on these wonderful cups such as the acanthus leaves, scrolling handles and the general shape.

Fully hallmarked with Coronation head (1953) and maker’s mark stylised letters ‘A L D’ in an oval for A L Davenport Limited which was originally established by James Davenport c1927. Davenport purchased T Wilkinson & Sons Limited in 1932. After his death, the factory was managed by his son Eric Davenport. The company ceased trading in 1971.

Hallmarks in normal location on the side of the cup are for Birmingham, additional marks on base as shown.

In overall very good condition with some dings, scratches as shown, need a slight clean.

We have not been able to locate another one of this type.
