Antique English Victorian Copeland Ceramic Plaque “Fairy Glen ~ Betws-y-Coed” ~ Decorated and Signed by William Yale of Stoke

A fine Late 19th Century Antique English Victorian Copeland Ceramic Plaque decorated with a woodland scene, and signed by William Yale of Stoke, Staffordshire, the reverse with script painted title “Fairy Glen ~ Betws-y-Coed”, and with impressed COPELAND Maker’s Mark. William { Billy } Yale was born in Newport, Shropshire in 1843, and was employed by Copeland from circa 1869 to 1883, where he was known for painting marine views and winter scenes. After leaving Copeland, he set up his own studio in Liverpool Road, Stoke-on-Trent, advertising himself as a Tile and Slab decorator. During this time, he began decorating sagger ware plaques bought in from other potteries which he then fired in a kiln attached to his premises. This fine example of his work is offered here mounted in a later bullnose giltwood frame.
