Small antique silver sovereign case with hallmarks for Birmingham 1902. Popular amongst the more affluent gentlemen in the Victorian and Edwardian times, these cases were used to store gold sovereigns and would generally be carried in their waistcoat pocket.
n
nThe coin would slip onto the sprung cover on the inside, pushed down and then be held in place by the rim. When a coin was needed, the button at the top of the case opens the case and by depressing the cover, the coin slides out. There is no spring mechanism attached to the opening button of this case or it’s possibly worn. It shuts very securely though.
n
nThere are a few tiny dents to the case but the overall condition is good considering its age.
