A rare Arts & Crafts ladder back rocking chair c1950’s by Dicon Nance of St. Ives (1909-2002). Made of Ash with a woven seagrass seat. Dicon and his brother Robin set up a cabinet making workshop in St. Ives, with their furniture influenced by the Arts & Crafts movement to embrace a modern aesthetic, always underpinned by fine materials and traditional craftsmanship. Ladder back chairs first developed by Ernest Gimson and the Cotswold group of Arts & Crafts furniture makers were manufactured by Dicon in St. Ives playing an important part in establishing the workshop. Dicon went on to work with designer and sculptor Dame Barbara Hepworth.

The rocking chair is in good condition, no damage or repairs. Signed DN (seen on image).
