Circa 2nd – 1st century BC.
A bronze battle axe head ‘Sagaris’ with narrow body and flat top oval shaft-hole, crescent blade to one edge and slight hook to the reverse.
The horse head is of particular interest, probably Scythian. The Scythians were the finest of cavalry at the time, and the light battle axe was a common weapon.
5.5 inches x 2.25 inches (14cm x 6cm). 211 grams.
Some evidence of soil deposits, slight nicks to the cutting edge.
CONDITION: Fine antique condition. Even malachite green patina.
