Past president of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, Past President of the Pastel Society. Artist in oils, watercolour and pastel. Studied at Watford College of art, and first exhibited at the Royal Academy while still a student. Entered a London commercial studio and became studio director.
Elected member of the Pastel Society in1939 and elected president in 1969.
Lecturer and teacher of painting, and founder member of the Wapping group, which specialized in paintings of the Thames.
Sykes exhibited extensively between 1925-1940, at: Royal Academy, Royal Institute of Painters in Oils, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, Pastel Society’ Royal Society of British Artists
He has had several one-man shows in London and the provinces, and his portraits, landscapes and still life paintings are in many private collections.
The painting is in good condition and measures 61 cm x 46 cm.
