RARE English Sterling Silver Mounted Royal SCOTS GREYS 1980 Hallmarked Birmingham

This is an absolutely amazing SOLID sterling silver figure of a mounted soldier with the horse charging forward.

The amount of work that has gone into making this is breathtaking!
Please look closely at all the separate pieces that have been put together to make this stunning work of art: saddle, bags, canister, reins, stirrups etc.

Then there is the intricate detail on the face, the uniform (look at the detail on the trousers) and the horse: it is realistically modeled and really captures the full gallop as the rider leans forward for the CHARGE!

In over 30 years of dealing in antiques, we have never seen anything like this wonderful work of art.

The nearest thing that we have found is a silver PLATED Hussar and horse available on eBay for £295 but that is not only plated but poor in design as the soldier stands the same height as his horse!

It is CAST silver and weighs a solid 176g which is remarkable considering it is hollow (there is a ‘blow’ hole near the bottom rear of the horse) and measures: 8.5cm nose to tail x 9cm (tip of hat to attachment under hoof).

T J in a shield for Thomas Jones

Anchor for Birmingham Assay Office

Lion Passant for English Sterling Silver

‘F ’ cursive lowercase letter F for 1980

It was clearly attached to a base as there is a section protruding from under one of the rear hooves.

This very RARE and delightful work of art is overall in amazing condition.

Please note that the sword in the soldier’s hand that should be pointing forwards has broken off and is missing BUT this is an easy repair. The sword hanging from his belt is slightly bent. There is some ‘tar’ like residue that appears to have leaked from the saddle bag but this should clean off. There is some tarnish and after a slight clean, this would look stunning!
