Rare LARGE Orientalist original PEN & INK Egypt c1910 WW1 signed
This is a beautiful RARE original pen and ink drawing showing an Arab riding his camel with palm trees and a mosque in the background.
This delightful original drawing captures the scene with the minimum of colour – just black ink on white paper – yet a very elegant scene!
It is of very good quality and you can see this with the way the ink has been quickly yet effectively used.
Ther artist was sufficiently pleased with his work that he signed them: “Will Robinson”.
There is a very famous and highly collected artist William HEATH Robinson who was working at around the same time. His original works are worth many thousands of pounds – more research may be needed to establish who this artist is.
Based on the clothing of the Arab depicted in the drawing, I believe that the image was drawn in Egypt. British troops were based in Egypt from around 1890 onwards, well before World War One. It was common for soldiers to capture their fascinating surroundings on paper.
This wonderful original work of art has its original early 20th century frame and glass.
It will have taken extra cost and effort to make oval frames and to cut oval glass.
Overall measurements are 27cm x 22cm
Please note that there are some minor scratches on the frame and the glass. There are also some minor blemishes on the paper but these do not have any detrimental impact on the drawing (please see images provided). However, this minor wear is to be expected for an antique that is over 100 years old.
