Staffordshire figures were originally made as ornaments to enliven a mantlepiece and to brighten up the home. Some had secondary uses such as spill vases, pastille burners and watch holders, but their main purpose was decorative.
Today the figures have become very popular collectors’ pieces and have an international appeal beyond Britain.
Most of these figures have been used and can show signs of wear and tear i.e., paint loss, crazing, firing cracks and chips. These earthenware figures and figurines were made from approximately 1740 till 1960 and during the later year’s copies and reproductions of the scarcer pieces were made in China and very good quality making them hard to distinguish from the originals.
I have tried to give a honest appraisal of condition for each piece in my description, hoping to give the buyer help with their decision.
Reproduction Staffordshire Pottery Flat Back depicting Princess Eugene on horseback, mid twentieth century, standing at 7″x 9.5″ inches in very good condition.
