Antique watercolour and Gouache by Henry Edwin Tozer (1838-1913) Titled ‘Sail And Steam’ dated 1870.
Henry Tozer was a 19th century marine artist. He was born in Soho London but later moved to Brixham in Devon. His sons Henry and Eustace both became well known artists.
This painting is a good example of his favourite subject matter: shipping in rough seas and stormy weather.
Exhibited at the Royal Society of Artists Birmingham and the Royal Academy
